Rookies Fam and Johnson lead Storm to victory over Dream

SEATTLE — Flower’Jay Johnson had 24 points and 11 rebounds, fellow rookie Ava Pham scored 21 points and the Seattle Storm never trailed in a 105-90 win over the Atlanta Dream on Saturday night.

Johnson made 9 of 12 shots with two 3-pointers for the Storm (5-15), who have won two straight after a franchise-record 11-game losing streak. Pham shot 8 of 9, including 5 of 6 from behind the arc.

Natisha Hiedeman added 20 points and six assists for Seattle, and Dominic Malonga had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jade Melbourne had 10 points and five assists, and the starters accounted for all but 14 points.

Rhyne Howard hit four 3-pointers and scored 27 points for the Dream (12-7), which lost the first three of four games. Angel Reese had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Allisha Gray scored 15 points. Jordyn Canada had 10 assists and eight points.

Atlanta trailed 76-64 after three quarters, but Howard scored two straight baskets to cut the lead to 91-84 with 4 1/2 minutes left. Johnson and Pham responded with back-to-back 3-pointers.

Pham, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, hit three 3-pointers to help Seattle score its first 12 points, and the Storm never looked back.
