Scott Pelley signs with CAA after being fired from ’60 Minutes’

On the work front, things may be looking up for Scott Pelley.

The outspoken TV journalist, who was fired from his longtime position at 60 Minutes earlier this month, has signed with Creative Artists Agency, the talent agency announced in an Instagram post on Thursday, June 25.

โ€œScott Pelley is an experienced television journalist who most recently worked as a correspondent for 60 Minutes,โ€ the agency said in a statement. โ€œFrom 2011 to 2017, he was the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News.โ€

The statement continues: โ€œScott has received 51 National Emmy Awards, four DuPont-Columbia Silver Batons, three Peabody Awards and six Edward R. Murrow Awards. He was awarded the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2025.โ€

Pelley, 68, was abruptly fired from โ€œ60 Minutesโ€ in early June after more than two decades on the air. His firing stemmed from an internal dispute with CBS management, USA TODAY learned June 2, leaving him without severance pay or other benefits, effective immediately.

During a heated staff meeting, Pelley accused CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss of โ€œmurderingโ€ the news institution, according to recordings obtained by The New York Times. Tensions have also escalated with new 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton.

In his dismissal, Bilton chastised Pelley for his โ€œperformative display of hostility,โ€ saying he โ€œhijacked my first staff meeting to disparage me, my qualifications and my intentions with astonishing rudeness and contempt.โ€

Pelley reflected on his firing in an emotional June 7 interview on The New York Timesโ€™ The Interview podcast. The TV host said he doesnโ€™t โ€œfeel sorryโ€ for himself, but cares about โ€œthe people I left behindโ€ at 60 Minutes and โ€œthis institution that I love so much.โ€

โ€œThe best way I can think of to describe it is itโ€™s like your spouse was murdered,โ€ Pelley said. โ€œThere are moments of the day when I feel good. There are times when I honestly just fall apart when I least expect it.โ€
