Rangers: What we learned from McInnes’ presentation

by OmarAli
Derek McInnes is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers Football Club during a press conference at Ibrox Stadium, on June 24, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland

Rangers appointed McInnes as โ€œmanagerโ€ instead of the previous title of โ€œhead coachโ€, suggesting he would have a more hands-on approach to matters beyond the training field than some of his predecessors.

When asked about his role in player recruitment, the Rangers manager said he is involved in a collaborative process with technical director Dan Pardee, sporting director Stig Inge Bjornebay, the board and the recruitment team.

He and his assistants will identify key positions that need to be strengthened, recruiters will get to work, and ongoing discussions will take place.

But ultimately the final decision will be his.

โ€œI have been given assurances that every player we sign will be the final decision for me,โ€ McInnes explained.

โ€œBut itโ€™s really a collaboration, and itโ€™s like like-minded people just talking every day, trying to come to the best option for us.โ€

McInnes added that there is a model to follow, but not every player will support โ€œdevelopmentโ€ for the purpose of resale.
