The Montreal Canadiens moved back from No. 103 overall and acquired picks Nos. 113 and 190 from the Los Angeles Kings. That No. 113 pick was then traded to the Vegas Golden Knights for No. 117, along with the second-to-last pick in the draft, No. 223 overall.
With the 117th pick in the draft, the Canadiens selected their third defenseman, Braden Klimpke.
Elite prospects
Unlike Montrealโs first two Day 2 picks, Klimpke hits left and is also eligible as a freshman. Heโs not a big player at 6-foot-0, 174 pounds, but heโs a beefy, mobile guard who can contribute offensively.
Kilmpke is committed to the University of North Dakota and will not play for another season, so this is a long-term project for the Canadiens.
Montreal is set to pick again at No. 189 overall in the sixth round, trading its fifth-round pick to the San Jose Sharks to get out of Carey Priceโs contract.
