The power hitter is active for Saturdayโ€™s game against the Texas Rangers (Sportsnet, 3 p.m. ET/noon PT), batting sixth and playing first base, manager John Schneider told reporters before the outing.

In a related move, Davis Schneider was offered Triple-A Buffaloโ€™s option to open up a spot on the 26-man roster.

With Keys playing first base, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will instead be the teamโ€™s designated hitter, with George Springer missing from Saturdayโ€™s lineup.

In addition, the Blue Jays also announced that outfielder Johendrik Pinago has been recalled from Triple-A and will be active Saturday, while Jesus Sanchez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain.

Keyes, 23, has excelled in the minors this season, hitting 24 home runs in 67 games in Double-A and Triple-A. Between the two levels, heโ€™s hitting .284/.409/.619, splitting his time between first and third base.

A fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft, Keys is ranked as the Blue Jaysโ€™ No. 14 prospect by MLB.com.

Schneider, meanwhile, has struggled mightily at the plate this season, batting .153 with a .578 OPS and three home runs in 49 games.
