Leipzig (dpa/sn) – Two people were injured in a fire in the basement of an apartment building in central-west Leipzig. The victims, a 54-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, police said.
The fire broke out in the basement of the house on Saturday evening around 6:10 p.m. Firefighters evacuated residents and extinguished the fire before the flames could spread to other parts of the building.
According to police, the house is currently uninhabitable. The extent of the material damage caused is not yet clear. Crime police are investigating suspected arson. A fire investigator is tasked with finding out how the fire started.
