For years, Madonnaโs younger brother was one of her closest confidantes. He was a dancer in her first British television performance and later became her tour director.
But they fell out when Madonna appointed a different director for her Drowned World tour: choreographer Jamie King. Things got worse when Christopher wrote a tell-all book, Life with My Sister Madonna, in 2008.
The star previously said she saw Christopher as one of her โbiggest enemiesโ for a โvery long timeโ, but they made peace before his death.
โHe was the one who was sick and came to me and said, โI need your help,'โ she told podcast host Jay Shetty last year.
โI felt so relieved. There was such a weight lifted off my back, such a weight lifted, baggage that I could let go of to finally be able to be in the same room with him and hold his hand, even though he was dying and saying, โI love you and I forgive you.โ
Speaking to Norton, Madonna said she wrote โFragileโ after Christopher called her at the studio.
โHe was in a lot of pain, he was talking on the phone and he wasnโt in the best condition. I knew it was close to the end. And then I went upstairs and wrote a song.โ
Titled Fragile, he recalls his childhood and promises: โWe will find each other on the other side.โ
โItโs a cleanser,โ she said of the song. โTo let go of someone you love, the best way to do it is to write about it. Itโs like an exorcism.โ
