As the heat wave intensifies in Europe, temperature records are being broken in many countries.
Yesterday was the hottest day in Denmark since temperature records began in 1874. In Italy, the hottest June night since 1956 was recorded in the city of Bolzano, surrounded by the Alps.
The 37 degrees measured near Odense yesterday was recorded as the highest temperature in the countryโs history since Denmark began keeping official weather records in 1874.
The national press recalled that the last temperature record of 36.4 degrees was recorded in the city of Holstebro in 1975, and the last June record was 35.5 degrees in 1947.
It was noted that the heat wave that hit Denmark also caused heavy rain and wind in some regions.
In Italy, while many cities remain on red alert status due to extreme heat coming from Africa, the hottest June night since 1956 was recorded in one of those cities, Bolzano in the north of the country.
The lowest temperature in Bolzano last night was 25.4 degrees and this value did not drop throughout the night.
According to expert forecasts published in the press, by June 29, extreme temperatures are expected to peak, continuing for a week, at different points.
In France, the death toll is rising rapidly due to extreme heat. It was stated that funeral halls in the city where bodies were kept until funerals were overcrowded. A spokesman for the French National Federation of Funeral Services confirmed that both funeral halls in Paris were full and noted that funeral halls located near the city were also experiencing overcrowding. According to Franceโs emergency medical services, 109 people died in Paris recently, believed to have suffered from extreme heat. This number was reported to include only those who died in homes and public places.
There will be intense heat in Turkey this coming week. Temperatures in Istanbul are expected to rise to 31 degrees tomorrow and 35 degrees on Tuesday. According to Turkish press reports, the temperature in the shade throughout the Mediterranean region is 36-39 degrees. In the sun and on paved areas the temperature exceeds 50 degrees.
