Manchester Super Giants chased down the 81 target in just 59 balls as they thrashed the London Spirit by seven wickets at The Hundred.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay took 4-17 as the Super Giants bowled out the Spirit with nine balls to spare at Lord’s before the visiting batters ended the chase with the loss of just three wickets.

The Spirit were immediately in trouble after going into action in the opening match, losing openers Grace Harris and Amy Jones for four and a golden duck.

Macdonald-Gay removed Marie Kelly and Marizanne Kapp, who scored 17 points, while Deandra Dottin removed Sophie Ecclestone for four.

Home captain Charlie Dean was one of four batters to score in double figures, scoring 14 before she was run out, with the innings coming to an early end as McDonald-Gay trailed Katie George for eight.

The Super Giants, playing their first match under their new name after spending five years as Manchester Originals, worked hard to achieve their low target.

Smriti Mandhana and captain Meg Lanning put on 33 for the first wicket before the former was trapped for 17 by Kapp.

Kapp struck the next shot, scoring Grace Scrivens, but Paige Scholfield survived for the hat trick.

Lanning was caught off Hannah Rainey for 21, but Richa Ghosh (15 off five) and Scholfield (22 off 15) finished things off quickly, with the latter hitting back-to-back fours and sixes to win the game.
