Parts of Australia are expected to see clear skies and warmer weather as wet and windy conditions continue in the southeast.

A high pressure system will see much of Australia wake up to clear skies, although wet and windy conditions will persist across the southeast.

A cold front will bring rain to Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory when it moves through on Monday.

Sky News Weather senior meteorologist Rob Sharp said Tasmania in particular would bear the brunt of the wet weather as the state enters the peak of winter.

Showers in Victoria will start in the mountains and then gradually move into the south-west corner.

Snowfall is expected to continue in the alpine region.

As for the rest of the country, Sharpe said, “A large high pressure system is driving the weather, resulting in clear skies.”

South Australia will be partly cloudy with the odd shower and temperatures will drop slightly.

NSW residents can expect clear skies and warmer conditions along the coast as the week begins with dry weather.

Queensland will see mostly sunny skies and slightly above average temperatures.

Temperatures will be average across the Northern Territory, with a chance of showers in the north-east corner.

Western Australia will start the week mostly sunny, with a slight chance of showers along the state’s south coast.
