โThe observerโs report is the reason NWS Portland issued the warning,โ said Storm Tracker 2 digital meteorologist Bobby Corser. โWe detected the rotation on radar, but ground truth confirmed it.โ
NWS Portland said a storm watcher reported seeing several funnel clouds.
The alert was issued for possible thunderstorms and hail in Western Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Shortly before the funnel cloud was spotted, a golfer was struck by lightning in Clackamas County.
