COBB COUNTY, Ga. — President Donald Trump was in metro Atlanta on Wednesday, speaking to an audience at Wheeler High School in Cobb County to promote his Trump Bills initiative.
The president’s visit, the Cobb County School District said last week, will provide “an opportunity to showcase the academic excellence, outstanding teachers and successful students that have made Cobb Schools a national leader in public education.”

- “This is America’s golden age,” Trump tells the crowd. And this is where the speech ends. He walks away from the YMCA past the villagers.
- He appears to end with a call to pass the American Rescue Act, a Trump-backed election bill requiring voter ID, proof of citizenship and an end to mail-in voting. The president had a hard time convincing Republicans to accept it.
- Trump calls former Braves manager Brian Snitker to make some brief remarks. He also credits Braves executive Mike Plant. “I love baseball,” Trump said. “You don’t know how good he is.” He jokes that he could fix the Mets.
- The President explains his jab at Ossoff, saying Rep. Mike Collins must defeat “Pee Wee Herman.” Trump says Collins is one of the most respected people in Congress. Collins wanted to be present today but remained in Washington to vote on key votes. “It will bring a lot of action back to your state,” Trump said. “He’s the whole package.”
- Jackson says if he becomes governor, Georgia will receive the same $1,000 federal seed money that Trump has in his accounts. He says if the legislature doesn’t pass the proposal, he’ll donate the money himself. (Note: Jackson and Trump are twin brothers who have matching suit and tie colors.)

- Another shout out to Rick Jackson, who is brought on stage to “make a big announcement,” Trump says.
- Trump says Sen. Jon Ossoff reminds him of “Kicky Herman.” Perhaps he was referring to the late Paul Reubens’ character, Pee-wee Herman?
- He now claims that “communists” wanted to blow up Mount Rushmore without any evidence or context. “The United States of America will never be a communist country,” Trump told the crowd, leading to more chants of USA! USA!
- The president invites families with young children to talk about Trump’s bills and explain their benefits.
- Now about the main event. The President calls Trump’s reports “hot as a gun.” He explains that children who enroll now will cost “hundreds of thousands of dollars” when they reach their 20s. Each newborn child will receive $1,000 in government money to start their account. Trump says 7 million have already made plans.
- Now the president is talking about the new East Wing Ballroom, calling it “a contribution to the United States of America.”
- The purpose of the visit, according to the White House, was to promote new government savings accounts for children, dubbed “Trump Accounts.” Almost 30 minutes into the speech and he still hasn’t mentioned them. He says the stock market is “skyrocketing” and inflation has dropped.
- The parents and uncle of Tyler Feehan, who was killed in Iran’s attack on a U.S. base in Jordan, were on Air Force One to Georgia, the president said. Trump was with them at Dover Air Force Base to bring back fallen soldiers before flying to Cobb County. “He could be a general,” Trump said. Feehan’s parents, Sherry and Steven, and his uncle David were in the crowd at Wheeler. Feehan’s parents live in metro Atlanta. Watch the moment here:

- So far, the speech is a standard speech as the president touts his administration’s policies on immigration, capturing Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and producing “millions of barrels of oil” for the United States. He then turns to Iran, saying “We don’t need the Strait of Hormuz” and telling the crowd that Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons.
- Trump greets Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson in attendance. “He will be your next governor.”
- He starts talking about his victory in the 2024 elections and shoots journalists, pointing out “fake news” in the back. The crowd whistles.
- President Trump took the stage to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless America.” (15:35) The crowd applauds “USA, USA!”
- Cortege: The drive from Dobbins AFB to Wheeler High School is about five miles. He arrived at Dobbins at 2:30 p.m., which means the President should be at school by now. (15:30)
- Speech: As of 3:20 p.m., we are still waiting for the President at Wheeler High School.
- Young crowd: The first few rows of the audience seated backstage are mostly children, which is appropriate since the president is expected to promote the government’s new savings accounts for children. Many of them hold signs that read “The Energy of the American Dream.”
- Trump arrives: Just before 2:30 p.m., Air Force One landed at Dobbins Air Force Base.
- Road closures: The President left Dobbins around 2:40 p.m. and would likely take about 10 minutes to get to Wheeler. So you can expect road closures in East Cobb, areas such as South Marietta Loop, Delk Road, Roswell Road, Lower Roswell Road, possibly I-75 in that area.
- Who’s here? Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler warmed up the crowd at Wheeler High shortly after 2:30 p.m. Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson also spoke earlier, and we saw lieutenant governor candidate Greg Dolezal, U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach, former Georgia state legislator, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
- Protesters: Across the street from Wheeler School, a protest group has formed and lined the sidewalk. At this time, it is difficult to say how large the actual crowd size is. Perhaps dozens or 100-200.
