On Tuesday, July 7, the World Cup in North America will draw a line under the 1/8 finals. The first match of the day will see the teams of Argentina and Egypt compete.
The meeting will be shown live with commentary in Russian by ETV+ and Rus.ERR. The broadcast starts at 18:50. From the Tallinn studio, sports journalists from the Actual Camera Igor Savelyev and Alexey Margiev will help viewers understand the details of what is happening on the field.
Before the match
Reigning world champion Argentina, which tops the FIFA rankings, has been unbeaten since September last year. At the current World Cup, the Argentines passed the group stage without misfire, beating Algeria with a score of 3:0, Austria – 2:0 and Jordan – 3:1. In the 1/16 finals they met the Cape Verdean team, which, however, imposed a serious fight on the favorite. Argentina still snatched victory, but only in extra time with a score of 3:2.
In the 1/8 finals, Argentina’s opponent will be Egypt, which is ranked 29th in the FIFA rankings. In the group, the Egyptians drew 1:1 with Belgium and Iran, and also beat New Zealand 3:1. In the 1/16 finals, the Pharaohs faced off against the Australian team. After a draw (1:1) in regulation time and overtime, a penalty shootout was required to determine the winner, in which the Egyptians eventually won a ticket to the next round.
The winner of this match will face either Switzerland or Colombia in the quarter-finals, which will also take place on July 7, starting at 11 p.m.
