Lost 11 kg in 25 days – Sonam Wangchuk
Sonam Wangchuk said: “By the 25th day, I had lost about 11 kg of weight, many muscles began to shrink, but I was fine. Yesterday evening I was brought to a private hospital here in Gurugram from Safdarjung. I would like to commend all those students who were patient in facing the latichard peacefully and did not attack back.
Sonam further said, “Very much though. Even when you were provoked and some elements threw stones, you acted patiently. Students were attacked very brutally, so I decided to continue the post. Even now, many leaders came to me calling on me to break my fast.
“Force should not be used against children”
Ministers of the ruling party and deputies also came here. They come here with about 65 signatures and appeal to me to break the fast and return to serving the country. I want to do the same myself. My work is very important to me. But I ask the government not to use this kind of force on children again.
There should not be any charges or FIRs against them so that they cannot be harassed by the jail or the police. I want this assurance, and if I get this assurance soon, then today I will break my fast, respecting the words of all of you and the leaders who have come here. What did Sonam Wangchuk’s wife say?
Earlier, Dr Gitanjali Angmo, wife of social activist Sonam Wangchuck, made serious allegations against the government. He said that as per the order of the Delhi High Court, Sonam Wangchuk was brought here from Safdarjung Hospital for better treatment. The court clearly stated that Sonam is not in custody and she needs to be provided with better treatment and an independent environment so that there is no police presence in the hospital.
Why is there a strong police force near the hospital?
Dr Angmo said despite this, heavy police forces have been deployed outside the hospital. Calling it shameful, he said that an Indian citizen who fasts for 25 days is not given peace of mind but is kept in a constant stressful environment. He said many MPs brought a letter signed by all MPs to meet Sonam Wangchuk and ask her to stop fasting, but the government is not allowing them to meet. He raised the question of whether the government wanted Sonam Wangchuk to end her fast.
Dr Angmo said Sonam Wangchuck said on social media today that he will break his fast only when members of Parliament demand it and the Indian government assures that no undue action will be taken against the protesters. He said that this guarantee should be coupled with a waiver of any action, including legal, physical or FIR.
