Mail order pharmacy Sanicare is insolvent again. The company with 74 employees went bankrupt despite turning over 80 million euros last year.

This is the next one insolvency in the pharmacy market. Well-known mail order pharmacy Sanicare is insolvent again after 2012. Operating company BS-Apotheken OHG said in a letter that it had already filed a complaint with the district court on July 15. Osnabrück filed an application for local government insolvency proceedings.

The management of the operating company therefore remains involved in the management of the insolvent company, based in Bad Lahr in the Osnabrück region of Lower Saxony, and continues the course of restructuring largely under its own control.

Falling sales as a reason for bankruptcy

According to the management company, the reasons for Sanicare’s renewed insolvency are declining sales and high investments in infrastructure. He has set himself the task of developing a concept for restructuring the insolvent mail-order pharmacy company in the next few weeks.

The goal of the preliminary self-government procedure is to “optimize current expenses and achieve sustainable positive income growth.” A temporary administrator accompanies the process, and the company receives legal and business advice.

Christophe Bertram and Heinrich Meyer, the two partners, emphasize that business operations will continue without restrictions despite the bankruptcy. “We are confident that we can successfully overcome the challenges ahead and look forward to the future with confidence,” the letter continues. BS-Apotheken OHG operates the mail order pharmacy Sanicare, making it one of the largest online pharmacies in Germany. In addition to its nationwide mail order business, the company operates several retail pharmacies. In 2025, annual sales were approximately 80 million euros. According to the insolvent company, it currently employs 74 people.
