The memorial was installed on 97th Avenue in Enfield, where thousands of physical gifts, including flowers, scarves, artwork, cards, banners and T-shirts, were placed to create a touching area of remembrance in the immediate aftermath of the tragic accident on July 3, 2025.
Some of these physical attributes, including parts of scarves and shirts, were embedded in wax and delicately incorporated into the structure and surface of the sculpture.
Other items are also included in the Granby Rock-faced stone plinth, which is laser-etched as a dedication to both brothers using Portuguese stone from their homeland of Gondomar.
The single flower placed in the brothers’ memory was also cast in bronze, meaning that this fragile piece of personal memory left by a fan at the time of the brothers’ passing is now a permanent physical presence.
The PlayStation controller is also placed on a pedestal – a metaphor for Jota himself, his love of gaming and his signature celebratory pose – play and friendship suspended in time.
