Over the past week, the UKโs political landscape has changed significantly.
In Sundayโs latest episode with Laura Kuenssberg, Cabinet Office minister Peter Kyle said Keir Starmer was reflecting on โpolitical realitiesโ amid speculation over the future prime minister.
By Monday, Starmer had stopped thinking.
He resigned as prime minister, saying that โevery decision he made was about โputting the country I love first.โ
It came shortly before Andy Burnham โ the former mayor of Greater Manchester who is expected to become the next prime minister โ was sworn in as an MP.
After a major victory in the Makerfield by-election, Burnham traveled to London to formally return to Parliament. On his way to the capital, he announced that he would stand for the leadership of the Labor Party and Prime Minister.
Wes Streeting, another potential contender, has endorsed Burnham for the top job.
Nominations of potential candidates will begin on July 9 and close a week later. Starmer said the party will have a new leader by the time Parliament opens after the summer recess on September 1.
