A Yellowstone National Park bison that seriously injured a man in a viral attack last week will not be euthanized after park officials confirmed the wild animal will remain in the park despite the shocking encounter.
According to TMZ, Yellowstone officials said no management action will be taken against the bull.
The decision came after the bison charged Carl Isom-McDaniel, leaving the grandfather with multiple broken bones that required surgery, Fox News Digital previously reported.
A witness to a Yellowstone bison attack believes the man saved his grandson by taking the brunt of the attack.
The frightening video, captured by wildlife photographer Mike McLeod, was widely shared online after the bison tossed McDaniel into the air and then hovered over him.
McLeod previously told Fox News Digital that he feared the animal was going to gore the injured grandfather and stopped filming to help shoo it away.

“As soon as I saw the victim in the air, I stopped filming and ran with several other men to drive the buffalo off and provide assistance,” MacLeod said.
The photographer also said that neither McDaniel nor his grandson appeared to have provoked the animal.

The bull had already attacked a group of teenagers before a grandfather and his grandson accidentally encountered it while walking through the camp.
McLeod said the couple tried to leave after noticing the bison had become active, but the animal eventually focused its attention on them.

“For some reason (the bison) got the idea that he was going to attack these two,” MacLeod said.
McDaniel underwent surgery after the attack and is recovering from his injuries. McLeod told Fox News Digital that the grandfather’s first concern after the attack was his grandson.

“I contacted him immediately and the first thing he asked was, ‘How is my grandson doing?’ MacLeod recalls.
McDaniel later learned his grandson was uninjured and was grateful the teen was unharmed.

Yellowstone National Park advises visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from bison, which can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and run at speeds of 30 mph.
Bull bison can become especially aggressive during the annual mating season.
Following the attack, many Yellowstone visitors flocked to Reddit to share reactions to the incident.

“I live next to the park and honestly we’ve seen enough tourists doing (almost) everything under the sun to see bison, but this is one of the few times we’ve all looked at it and we’re shocked that a bison just attacked a guy,” one Reddit user said.
“I wish one of the cars passing by would open the door for him (grandfather) so he could get in the car while he tried to escape,” another commented.

“Honestly, it’s very sad. Usually when you see this happen it’s some idiot tourists trying to take a selfie or something. This bison just woke up and chose violence. I hope grandpa is okay,” said a third.
