Next bus departure here VM! Hervé Renard (57) resigned as Tunisia coach after just two games. The Frenchman announced his departure on Instagram on Saturday evening. Renard wrote: “It was an honor to wear the colors of Tunisia and have this unforgettable experience.” He also thanked the Tunisian association and wished the team “all the best for the future.”
Particularly strange: Renard took this position during the current World Cup. After a bitter opening score of 1:5 against Sweden, predecessor Sabri Lamouchi (54) had to leave. Renard was introduced as the new coach on June 16, and just 18 days later everything happened again.
Because the quick rescue operation was a complete failure. Under Renard, Tunisia lost two other group games: 0:4 to Japan and 1:3 to Holland. Three games, three defeats, goals 2:12 – clear elimination from the preliminary round.

For Renard, this was Renard’s third World Cup as a coach – always with a different team. He took care of Morocco in 2018 and led Saudi Arabia to the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Now his Tunisia adventure is over after just two games on the sidelines.
In his farewell post, Renard continued to write that he was convinced that the Tunisian team would continue to grow and “inspire the entire country.” But his own journey with the team is already over.
Renard wants to stay in Africa
It may also be clear what’s next for the Frenchman. Renard recently said that he misses Africa very much: “I haven’t been to Africa for six years. I missed Africa during this time.” The long-time coach has already coached Morocco, Angola, Zambia and Ivory Coast, among others. Renard said, “I think I’ll stay on the continent.”
