Woman found dead at furnished tourist site, investigation launched into premeditated murder

The woman was found lifeless in a rented accommodation in the center of Béthune (Pas-de-Calais) on July 13, 2026. The prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into premeditated murder.

The body of a lifeless woman was found in a rental property on Rue Saint-Prix in Béthune on Monday, July 13, 2026, late in the morning. Following a signal from an acquaintance of the victim, who was unable to contact her, the body was discovered by the homeowner.

The medical examiner’s initial findings indicated the victim had been stabbed, prompting Bethune prosecutors to open a homicide investigation. The investigation was entrusted to the interdepartmental service of the judicial police (SIPJ) of Pas-de-Calais. An autopsy is necessary to determine the cause of death.

Etienne Thieffrey, the prosecutor of Bethune, confirms that this is furnished tourist accommodation. On this city center street, several merchants suspect the premises are being used for prostitution.
