For two decades, One show was an integral part of the BBC One schedule. Since its launch in 2006, the magazine’s weekday program has entertained viewers every evening from 7pm, combining celebrity interviews, trending stories and consumer articles into one of the broadcaster’s most reliable hits.

However, regular viewers tuning in this evening (Monday 29 June) will not see either Alex Jones or Roman Kemp on screen. Instead of, One show has completely disappeared from the annual summer holiday schedule – and won’t return for several weeks.

This time, football is not the cause of the shake-up. Instead, BBC One’s 7pm slot will be occupied by coverage of the Wimbledon Championships, which began this Monday and runs until 12 July.

The iconic tennis tournament sees significant changes to the BBC’s daytime and evening schedules each year, with Wimbledon coverage prioritized on BBC One and BBC Two each summer. But while Wimbledon explains the program’s initial demise, it is not the only reason for the extended break.

Alex Jones and JB Gill confirmed the news in the magazine’s Friday (June 26) issue. One show showing the audience briefly saying goodbye. “This is our last show before the four-week break,” Alex announced at the start of the program, before recalling some of her highlights from the past year.

She went on to explain that the BBC’s focus will soon shift to a busy summer of sport alongside coverage of the World Cup, including Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games, which take place from 23 July to 2 August.

As a result, One show won’t return until July 27, leaving a noticeable gap in the early evening schedule. While the break may seem long, it’s unlikely to come as a surprise to longtime viewers.

Traditionally, the program goes on hiatus each summer to make way for major sporting events, with the BBC changing its schedule to accommodate live coverage. This is also not the only case One show has been pulled out of its normal slot.

Earlier this year, the program was temporarily removed from the schedule to make way for coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, another annual event on the BBC calendar. Over the years, the show has also been relegated to one-off events, including major sporting events and broadcast specials.

Winter 2025 One show was excluded from the lists for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards. It also took its usual holiday break over Christmas and New Year before returning to screens in January 2026.

After the end of the summer season, program hosts are already making good use of their time outside the studio. Alex recently told her Instagram followers that she took her kids to see Toy Story 5and Roman Kemp traveled to New York to watch England’s match against Panama.

Although One showThe summer holidays are a familiar tradition and the program caused concern among viewers earlier this year when Alex suddenly disappeared from the presenting line-up for several days.

During her absence, JB Gill teamed up with Roman Kemp to host the show, prompting many viewers to wonder where Alex had gone. She later returned with Angelique Bell and assured viewers that there was nothing to worry about – she was just sick.

For now, fans will just have to wait patiently for Alex Jones, Roman Kemp and their team to return to their usual 7pm time slot when the program is due to resume after another busy season of sporting action.
