Tomorrow, July 4, 2026, will mark the most important anniversary in world history. 250 years ago the independence of the United States of America was declared.
The history of this country is a wonderful adventure. The United States has become the world’s leading power. They contributed greatly to bringing humanity to the right side in World War II. The people of this country have a reason to celebrate, to celebrate in a big way.
By definition, celebrating also means temporarily putting aside your differences. Celebration requires participation in a certain kind of communication, a celebration of the fact that beyond each person’s political beliefs there is something more that belongs to his nation.
Today, Americans should celebrate in the knowledge that there are no Democrats or Republicans, no Trump supporters or anti-Trumpers. They should celebrate this event with pride in the fact that they are all Americans.
Separation
Unfortunately, these celebrations reminded us to what extent this is no longer possible in a divided, aggravated country, torn between extremist movements on the left and right. First of all, this is no longer possible under a narcissistic president who boils everything down to his personal glory.
What Trump did is unthinkable and unique. The parties were organized by a nonpartisan organization authorized by both Republicans and Democrats. This commission, with an appropriate budget, operated for eight years under the name “America 250.”
As soon as he was elected, Trump wanted to organize his own celebrations at the same time. Officially for ideological reasons and to promote the idea of greater patriotism. Let me see something else: he wanted celebrations that would glorify him, the demigod, the best president in history!
As a result, two series of events were organized in parallel. In the capital and throughout the country. “America 250” is official on the one hand, and “Freedom 250” is pro-Trump on the other. This is unhealthy duplication, contrary to the spirit of unity of such an important anniversary!
Huge crowds?
These days, Donald Trump is feeling the stress of attending HIS organization’s events. Several Freedom 250 events aren’t drawing the crowds they dreamed of…and God knows this man’s ego is fueled by record attendance and monster gatherings.
For example, a large fair held on the National Mall in downtown Washington did not attract the crowds that organizers had hoped for. Several US media outlets reported that the crowd was sparse and the line for the Ferris wheel was quite short.
Critics of Freedom 250 also raise questions about funding, transparency and the awarding of contracts to Trump cronies.
Se 250e does it show us the beginning of the decline of the American Empire? I wouldn’t say that today. This country is overflowing with resources: it has the undeniable ability to bounce back.
However, there is a serious problem when a country can no longer even celebrate.
