NHL: Blues will soon buy out Jonathan Drouin's contract

The St. Louis Blues have placed forward Jonathan Drouin on the waiver wire to buy out the final year of his contract.

Drouin was scheduled to receive a salary of four million US dollars the following season.

Once his contract is bought out, his impact on the Blues’ payroll over the next two seasons will be $1.333 million.

The window for contract redemption closes at 17:00. Tuesday. Drouin will be put up for ransom first this summer, informant reports TSN Chris Johnston.

On March 6, the Blues acquired the third overall pick in the 2013 NHL Amateur Auction from the New York Islanders.

At the age of 31, Drouin made nine appearances for the Blues, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He finished the campaign with four goals and 20 assists in 64 games.

The Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts native played 671 NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders and Blues. He scored 111 goals and made 287 assists.

The Blues also announced that they have extended qualifying offers to striker Connor McMichael and defender Leo Loofe.
