Friedrichshafen – Spectacular scenes on Lake Constance: A funnel suddenly appears from the clouds above Lake Constance on Wednesday. Within minutes, a huge tornado moves across the water, leaving hundreds of onlookers in amazement – and goosebumps. He came dangerously close to the shore.
Around 1:10 p.m. in front of Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance (Baden-Württemberg) weather phenomenon. The characteristic column of air from the tornado remained motionless for almost 20 minutes and was clearly visible from the embankment. There were no initial reports of injuries or damage.

Many people watched the natural spectacle. Many left restaurants and shops along the embankment to admire the unusual sight. The wind was spinning dangerously close to the shore. Witnesses reported moments of fear on social media.

According to the German meteorological service, this is a so-called waterspout – a whirlwind of air over a body of water. Such phenomena occur in certain Weather conditions and are rare, but can offer an impressive natural spectacle.
Second tornado in early June
Noteworthy: this is the second Tornado over Lake Constance in a short time. Just about three weeks ago, a smaller tornado was observed over a lake near Lindau.
Although no one was injured this time, previous events show the strength tornadoes can develop. He reminds us of this destructive tornado in Bützow (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) in 2015. Then 30 people were injured, roofs were flooded and entire streets were destroyed. An event that is still considered one of the most powerful tornadoes in Germany in recent years.
