One of Tate McRae’s performances is officially nominated for an Emmy Award.

The 2026 Emmy nominations were revealed yesterday (July 8), and Tate McRae’s performance at the 2025 VMAs provided outstanding choreography for variety and reality television. Directed by Robbie Blue, the sports performance featured a medley of her hits “Sports Car” and “Revolving Door”, with several acrobatic routines performed in a sandbox.


It’s quite a feat for the Calgary pop star and her dancers as this is the second VMA performance to be recognized at the Emmy Awards, second only to Michael Jackson’s iconic 1995 VMA medley, which was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the same category in 1996.

McRae’s performance is nominated along with Bad Bunny’s blockbuster Super Bowl halftime performance. Evil: One Wonderful Night TV special starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the 2026 Academy Awards and RuPaul’s Drag Race.

This is the latest accolade in the highly successful release of her third album. So close to thatwhich topped the Billboard Canadian Albums and Billboard 200 charts and helped her dominate the charts throughout the year. She was the top Canadian female artist of 2025, and “Sports car” became an inevitable radio hit, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and entering the top 15 on the annual Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Songs chart for 2025. Earlier this year, she was awarded the Hitmaker Award at the 2026 Billboard Women In Music in Los Angeles.

Her choreographer Robbie Blue, who is credited with the nomination, celebrated the feat in an Instagram post. “This is unreal!!!” – he exclaimed. “A huge thank you to my team, actors, creative department and everyone who made this possible! We did it!!!”

The 26-year-old choreographer notably choreographed the viral Gap Katseye commercial last year as well as Dochia’s stellar performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, which was his first professional performance and his biggest performance to date.

“I think the artists that are looking for me are mostly artists that are willing to put themselves out there and really want to dance and love to dance. For me, the ideal artist is Dochii, it’s Twigs, it’s Tinashe, it’s Tate (McRae), it’s somebody who really wants to come into the studio and work really hard,” he said.
