As the cycling world rocks to the rhythm of the Tour de France, former rider Thomas Voeckler recharges his batteries in the Vendée. The France Télévisions consultant spends happy days with his wife Julie and three children in Mouyeron-les-Captif.
While Emmanuel Macron is in the Hautes-Pyrenees campaigning for France’s 2026 election, Thomas Fauclair is making news at home in the Vendée. In fact, it is in the very center of the city that the Thomas Voeckler Challenge began, a project aimed at young cyclists (under 15 and under 17 years old) as well as cycling schools. The former star cyclist didn’t have to look far to launch the event. He lives with his childhood sweetheart Julie and their three children in Mouyeron-les-Captif, a quiet town of about 5,000 inhabitants located just outside La Roche-sur-Yon. Unlike the world cycling stars who often reside in south-east France, the former yellow jersey winner is thriving in a quiet residential complex with new houses. “I always felt good in this small town”– he admitted in 2011 Western France.
Thomas Voeckler, based in the Vendée, is living happy days far from luxury. “I’m lucky that I earn good money… But I could earn less and support myself in the same way, because I still have a concept about money. Sometimes I can afford things and I tell myself: no, it’s not worth it.”he added to Western France. Moreover, his modest daily life in Mouyeron-les-Captif allows him to secure his future and the future of his children. “I prefer to have a savings account, for the children, for the future. I don’t get upset so as not to lose my temper.”– he explained. And in the family pavilion in the Vendée, the division of affairs with his wife Julie is an established business, as he admitted in the magazine columns. Alsace : “We tried two different roles: Julie is the adult teacher and I am the nanny, and vice versa. But given my limited patience, I take care of the baby and she plays the hostess.”

Behind the consultant is a real mother hen and a happy husband. Thomas Voeckler shares his life with Julie, a former ready-to-wear saleswoman. Having met while on holiday in Brittany, the couple had three children: Mahe, Lila and Noha. The cyclist also retired in 2017 due to the birth of his third child. In columnsWestern FranceJulie Fockler described their daily life as “normal family” despite her husband’s star status: “He talks very little about the bike at home (…) He takes his children to and from school with joy and honor. For me he is a champion on the bike, but at home he is the husband.”
