After much anticipation – and our initial coverage of its announcement – Stephen Chow’s highly anticipated book Kung fu football officially released in cinemas across China. Celebrating the legendary director’s return to the director’s chair after seven years, this action-comedy is a spin-off of the 2001 cult classic. Shaolin Football is already causing a stir. To celebrate the release, a full-length trailer has finally been released, giving fans a great look at the absurdist humor and heavy action that they’ve been waiting for.

Serving as a spiritual successor rather than a direct sequel, the film shifts its focus to the failing women’s soccer team Emei. Led by captain Shuangshuang (Zhang Xiaofei) and striker Yu Long (Dilraba Dilmurat) under the guidance of their mentor Xu Feng (Lei Zhang), the team must combine traditional martial arts with modern football tactics to win the prestigious “Supreme Invincible Cup”.

Fans of Hardcore Chow can expect his signature blend of deadpan comedy, stunning yet over-the-top visuals, and inspiring underdog themes. Featuring a 100% new take on the Kung Fu Football formula and a delightful cameo from Shaolin Football veteran Wong Yat-fei (Iron Head) –Kung fu football will be this summer’s biggest cinematic goal.
