What we know:
Officers with the Clayton County Police Department are asking for immediate public assistance in locating Ramon Jett.
The vulnerable child, nicknamed “RJ,” disappeared Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. from the Sutter Lake Apartments at 8104 Webb Road in Riverdale.
Ramon is approximately 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 40 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
When last seen, he was wearing a light green shirt, camouflage shorts and white socks.
Community members noted that Lake Joy, a significant body of water, is very close to the apartment complex where the boy was last seen.
Ashley Harris, Ramon’s mother, said he had disappeared before, but in a smaller area. Harris explained that Ramon stayed with his older sister after they went swimming on Saturday.
โSo when they woke up from their nap today, they found the door open. And everyone just went into search mode. Anxiety, it’s a lot of worry, nervousness, but there’s still hope,โ Harris said.
Harris suggested that if you see Ramon, call him by his nickname.
โHe may be a little standoffish, but if you can, please contact the police station immediately. Call him by his nickname. This may make him more desirable. He loves numbers, letters, nursery rhymes and the like. Thatโs why heโs drawn to those things,โ Harris said.
What you can do:
Authorities are asking the public to keep a close eye on the child. Anyone who sees Ramon should call 911 immediately.
For non-emergency tips or information on his whereabouts, the public can contact the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office at 770-477-4479.
The situation is extremely critical, since Ramon is taciturn and suffers from mental illness. Law enforcement agencies plan to continue searching for Ramon into the night.
Due to these factors, he may be completely unable to communicate or ask anyone for help, raising serious concerns for his physical safety, according to the Clayton County Police Department.
If you live or travel in the Riverdale area, especially near the 8000 block of Webb Road, authorities say you need to have your property checked immediately.
Take a close look at your yards, porches, outbuildings, wooded areas, and any areas where a small child might seek shelter.
What we don’t know:
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact time the child was last seen or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Search coordinators have not yet determined which direction Ramon was heading when he walked away from the block on Webb Road.
It remains unclear whether Ramon lives at the Sutter Lake Apartments or was simply visiting them when he disappeared.
What they say:
“It’s a big complex,” explained Demeka Evans, a local neighbor, as volunteers joined the cleanup. โI have children and a grandson the same age and I would be devastated if I found out he was not with us or he was missing. So I pray for the mother and the parents, and I really pray that you find this child.โ
