SAFA rejects claims over coach Broos departure from Bafana

10 July 2026 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has rejected claims that coach Hugo Bros has resigned as head coach of the South African senior men’s team.

Bros remains Bafana Bafana’s head coach and reports claiming otherwise are completely false. This is not the first time the Belgian coach has been linked with leaving shortly after the South African men’s team performed well at an international tournament. Broos was reported to join the Tunisia squad in March 2024, weeks after Bafana Bafana won bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Broos returned with the team from the 2026 World Cup a few days ago after making history at the global tournament currently taking place in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada. Bafana Bafana reached the second round of the tournament for the first time after beating South Korea 1-0 in their last group match in Monterrey, Mexico.

The coach is currently at home in Belgium and will return to South Africa later this month.
