Economist Peter Schiff said on Monday that he regretted not buying Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) when he first learned about the top cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin’s Eternal “Regret”

In his X-post, Schiff contrasted Bitcoin’s early FOMO with the strategic mistake of holding the asset for too long.

“Many people, including myself, regret not buying Bitcoin when they first heard about it,” he said. “Soon, more people will regret not selling Bitcoin above $60,000 when they had the chance.”

Will Schiff Buy Bitcoin for $20,000?

This isn’t the first time Schiff has admitted he missed out on Bitcoin. In an interview in March 2024, he regretted not buying the world’s largest cryptocurrency back in 2010, given the potential profits.

Does this mean he will switch to Bitcoin at the first opportunity?

“No chance,” Schiff explained, adding that he wouldn’t even buy if Bitcoin fell to $20,000.

Some Bitcoin enthusiasts accused him of secretly storing the cryptocurrency, but he immediately denied this claim.

This is not a chance. $20k is too much to pay for nothing.

Is Bitcoin here to stay?

Schiff’s remarks reflect his long-standing bearish view that Bitcoin is overvalued and headed for a significant decline. In fact, he tops the list of Bitcoin obituaries, declaring the asset “dead” a whopping 23 times.

Schiff aggressively promotes gold as the ultimate safe haven while deriding Bitcoin as a worthless asset.

While Bitcoin did underperform gold last year, its compound performance over the long term is substantially better.
