One person was killed and four others were injured in a shootout that occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday, July 17, during a possible score-settling between drug traffickers in Carcassonne in Aude, France. A police source told Inter and Franceinfo about this.
The events occurred around midnight in the Fleming area when five people came under gunfire and were cared for by firefighters and SAMU. One of the victims died. According to the first findings of the investigation, the criminals were driving a black Golf and using military weapons. Dozens of large-caliber shell casings found in Kalashnikov magazines were found at the scene. The car used in the shooting was found completely burned down near the scene of the incident.
A few hours earlier, late Wednesday afternoon, a 21-year-old man had already been wounded in Carcassonne. At around 6:00 p.m., the man, a French national known to the Crime Branch (TAJ), was shot in the abdomen. Under the care of emergency personnel, he was taken to the hospital center. His life prognosis was not in danger. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown at this time. The investigation was carried out by the national police unit (CPN).
On Friday, the day after the two shootings, Christophe Barthe, the mayor of Carcassonne for the National Assembly, immediately called for police reinforcements, ICI Occitanie reports. In accordance with this request, the CRS company will be deployed on the weekend of July 18 and 19 in Carcassonne, the mayor’s office announced through its Facebook account.
