Lohagad Fort is located above the Indrayani Valley in Maval Taluka, about 50 kilometers from Pune, Maharashtra. The fort, a popular weekend trekking destination, attracts visitors most of the year, and in the weeks before and after the monsoon, the approach trail fills with groups from across the Mumbai-Pune corridor.

On the morning of June 18, Ketan Agarwal, 26, director of a Pimpri-Chinchwad real estate firm and son of Vishal Agarwal, a construction businessman, was among those who climbed the stone steps. He had come to celebrate the birthday of his 20-year-old fiancรฉe Siya Goyal. He didnโ€™t return.
