Jannik Vestergaard’s contract with Leicester City was terminated by mutual consent following the club’s relegation to League One.
The 33-year-old Denmark international had a year left on his contract with the Foxes but took up the opportunity to leave after back-to-back relegations relegated the 2016 Premier League title holders to the third division.
Vestergaard joined Leicester from Southampton in 2021 and was relegated three times during his five years with the Foxes – with the club playing between the top flight and the Championship between 2023 and 2025 before dropping to League One.
He made 118 appearances in total for the East Midlands club but became the latest major worker to be transferred to the King Power Stadium’s summer refurbishment.
Former England international Harry Winks was sold to Italian club Cagliari a day earlier, while Victor Christiansen was sent on loan to Greek club Panathinaikos, while strikers Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka and captain Ricardo Pereira were released at the end of their contracts earlier in the summer.
