Music fans around the world were left shocked and disappointed after a number of major concerts were cancelled.
Alice Dearing, 59, from Baltimore, USA, was excitedly preparing for Eric Clapton’s performance at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk and even booked flights and accommodation.
However, HeritageLive announced on Tuesday that the event would be canceled along with two others due to financial reasons. Some concertgoers said they were still waiting to hear whether their tickets would be refunded.
Dearing said: “We may see Eric Clapton here in the United States, but this is an arena… the appeal was held at Sandringham, on this beautiful estate.”
The five-day event was set to feature headliners including Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin.
GCE Live organizers have also planned events at Englefield Estate in Berkshire this month and at Audley End House in Essex next month.
In a statement on Tuesday it saidexternal it became “almost impossible” to compete in the “increasingly saturated festival market” and had to contend with rising costs.
The last time Dearing saw Clapton perform was in concert in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992, when she was a newlywed with her husband, John.
She said: “We always talk about it and then when it happened at Sandringham it was wonderful… it just had our names written there.”
Dearing said that See Tickets (the ticket sellers through whom she purchased her tickets) told her that she would get her money back for the concert; however, her airline tickets were non-refundable.
“There were a lot of logistics that needed to be worked out; A lot of time and money was spent on this,” she said.
“Now we need to decide what we will do in the few days we are in Norfolk and the Sandringham area… I still have a B&B booking but the main event has passed.”
