The central government is on alert after the Tharakan Janata Party speech and the Gen Z agitation following the NEET paper leak. The Modi cabinet has approved a bill to prevent cases of paper leaks in exams, which may be introduced in Parliament soon. In this episode, news comes that a big announcement could be made by the Ministry of Education tonight, i.e. July 24th, whereby major changes in the NTA could be announced.
What is the government’s plan?
According to information received from sources, today at 20:00 the Ministry of Education may make a loud statement about the NTA reform. It is believed that this announcement will make many important announcements regarding reforms at the NTA. If sources are to be believed, the ministry hopes that these reforms will have a positive impact on the academic performance of continuing students in Delhi.
Severe punishment bill approved
Notably, in view of the ongoing protests across the country over leaking of NEET exam papers, the central government has convened a cabinet meeting in which a bill has been approved to provide strict punishment for paper leaks. It has a provision that provides for punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 crore for those who leak the newspaper. The bill is expected to be introduced in Parliament this week.
What’s the matter?
It may be recalled that following the news of the NEET exam paper being leaked, the Tarakan Janata Party started protesting against it at Jantar Mantar, which received the support of renowned educationist Sonam Wangchuk. During this time, Sonam Wangchuck went on a hunger strike, and Generation Z across the country took to the streets to support her. After this, the government agreed to the demands of Sonam Wangchuk and the Tharakan Janata Party. In such a situation, Sonam Wangchuk stopped fasting after 26 days.
Big changes in the education department
Even before the approval of this bill, the government made many important decisions, which included major administrative changes in the Ministry of Education. In such a situation, the government appointed Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Naresh Pal Gangwar as the new secretary of the Higher Education Department in 1994. Previously, this responsibility was held by Vineet Joshi.
