Manchester United are close to agreeing on the return of goalkeeper Andre Onana to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.
United, Trabzonspor and the 30-year-old’s representatives are finalizing the details of what will be a loan without option to buy.
Onana was expected to return to Carrington for pre-season training after making 33 appearances on loan with the Turkish Super League club last season, also winning the Turkish Cup.
However, Trabzonspor were keen to extend the Cameroonian international’s stay, with no prospect of him playing regularly for United again.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for an initial €51m (£43.9m, $57.4m) plus €4m in add-ons, replacing David de Gea as United’s number one.
The former Ajax goalkeeper started 72 of United’s 76 Premier League matches in his first two seasons at the club but lost his place at the start of this season under former head coach Ruben Amorim.
United signed goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day for an initial fee of €21 million plus €4 million in add-ons, leaving Onana surplus to requirements.
The Cameroonian, whose contract with United runs until 2028, has made 102 appearances for the Old Trafford club, keeping 24 clean sheets.
United are looking to upgrade their goalkeeping squad this summer, with reserve Altay Bayindir also attracting interest from his native Turkey.
Radek Vitek, 22, could also leave either permanently or on loan in search of regular playing time after impressing on loan at Championship club Bristol City.
