This is the analytical man, the numbers juggler at ARD: Jörg Schönenborn. He shares a passion for current political events with his wife.
As an election moderator ORD and the discussion leader of the Press Club, Jörg Schönenborn, a face familiar to many television viewers. Since 1999, the journalist has held various, highly visible positions on public television channels. Now the 61-year-old’s fame is likely to become even greater: Starting this week, Jörg Schönenborn will join the Tagesthemen team as a moderator.
WITH Jesse Wellmer And Ingo Zamperoni it completes the news flagship’s permanent trio, Julia-Niharika Sen and Susanne Stichler are part of the extended moderation team. “Jörg Schönenborn epitomizes authority and reliability in German television journalism. He has earned the trust of audiences for decades,” ARD editor-in-chief Markus Bornheim said of the footage.
Today she would be “married to the same man”
Decades during which Schönenborn could count on one constant: his personal life. He has been married to his wife Jona Teichmann for 36 years. They met while studying journalism and political science. Dortmund know. The two were enrolled at the local university between 1983 and 1988, and Teichmann later said there was a spark on the first day. They tied the knot in 1990.
- Jörg Schönenborn: “We’ve been getting this message for over twenty years.”
Student love has survived to this day. In her next life, Teichmann told a journalist magazine in 2021, she will be “married to the same man.” Perhaps the recipe for happiness in marriage also lies in the fact that they share the same passion.

Jona Teichmann is also no stranger to this industry. While her husband chose television, Teichmann chose radio. She has worked in radio since the late 1990s and since April 2021 has led Deutschlandradio as program director, where she is responsible for the station’s important programs. More recently, it has come into the spotlight for its role and efforts to reform Deutschlandradio, since here too savings need to be made due to changed framework conditions.
“My mind is never free”
This topic is certainly a topic of conversation in the Schönenborn-Teichmann family. The wife of the new Tagestemen presenter, who is a year older, sometimes regretted not getting on television? In 2021, she told the media magazine “dwdl.de”: “I feel quite comfortable on the radio.” But the fact that she even got on the radio was thanks to her husband. Initially, she wanted to work for a newspaper, but Jörg Schönenborn persuaded her.
