Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their squad in several positions this summer. One of them must be a striker. The club saw Alexander Isak last season and failed to adequately replace him, which was the main reason for their unsuccessful campaign.
Nick Woltemade started his career brightly at St James’ Park but quickly faded away. By the end of the season, he often did not even play as a striker.
On the other hand, Ioan Vissa scored one goal after a move worth over £50 million. Thus, the Congolese international also did not live up to expectations.
Anthony Gordon played center quite a bit last season. He also went to Barcelona. So overall Newcastle United lack quality there. Recently, an American national team player caught their attention. Unfortunately, it looks like Chelsea want him too.
Chelsea and Newcastle United are eyeing the former Arsenal striker
This summer’s World Cup will be a great place to scout for talent. And the in-form striker appears to have attracted the attention of both Chelsea and Newcastle United.
The player we are talking about is none other than Falorin Balogun. Chelsea have now joined the race to sign the American striker.
While Balogun has performed well so far for the United States at the home World Cup. But he was in amazing form at club level too.
The former Arsenal striker currently plays for Monaco in Ligue 1. He scored 19 goals for them in all competitions the previous season. Five of them came in the Champions League, including a double against PSG.
Where will Balogun end up?
It just shows the progress Balogun has made since leaving Arsenal, where he probably didn’t get a fair shake-up at all.
Still only 24 years old, it may be time for Balogun to return to the Premier League. But will it be Chelsea or Newcastle United?
Chelsea already have Joao Pedro. Nicholas Jackson is also a potential option. Emmanuel Emega also appears on the field. Game time may be much easier to come by at Newcastle United.
Of course, it is quite possible that the move will not happen and he will remain in Monaco. A transfer fee of €50 million would be required to even bring a Ligue 1 club to the negotiating table.
