A SW19 quarter-finalist in 2019 and 2021, Muchova lost just 10 games en route to the third round and will next face Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew to try and advance further.
Naomi Osaka, whom Mucha beat in the Bad Homburg final, is also gaining momentum on grass. The four-time major champion will face Daria Kasatkina on Friday night, aiming for a place in the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time at 28.
A week earlier, Muchova’s Czechs Marie Bouzkova and Linda Noskova took the trophies of the tournament on grass: Noskova won the WTA 500 title in Berlin and Bouzkova won in Nottingham.
Bouzkova, a former Wimbledon quarter-finalist, won the final in Nottingham over Emma Navarro and both advanced to the third round of the All England Club.
Another Czech, 2024 Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejcikova, reached the final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch to open the season on grass, foreshadowing her defeat on Center Court by French champion Andreeva. She and Muchova are preparing to fight in the fourth round.
And then there are the Americans, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, who have excelled on grass this year and carried that form into Wimbledon. Tiafoe beat Fritz to claim the biggest title of his career in Halle, a week after Fritz reached the grass final in Stuttgart.
If they win their third round matches at Wimbledon, they will meet in a blockbuster round of 16 match.
While Tiafoe and Fritz competed in the final in Halle, compatriots Tommy Paul (Queens) and Jessica Pegula (Berlin) also competed in the final on grass, and they too reached the third round at Wimbledon.
