Malappuram: Although more than two and a half thousand candidates have registered with the job exchanges and are waiting for employment in the district, only 3,763 people have got jobs in the last ten years. This is the number of people who have taken temporary jobs in various government departments. Information regarding the appointment is contained in the response given to the Assembly by Labor Minister Sibu Baby John. Between January 2021 and March 2026, 65,228 persons were appointed through the employment exchange across the state, while in Malappuram district it dropped to only 3,763.
All government and semi-government organizations are required to first report temporary vacancies to the Labor Exchange. The main reason for the decline in recruitment through the labor exchange is that many departments and local governments do not comply with these conditions and make direct appointments on the basis of daily wages. The High Court has said several times that transparency must be ensured even in temporary appointments and that appointments other than labor exchanges are illegal.
