In 2011, the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee came to power, ending 34 years of Left rule, and became the strongest political force in the state for the next 15 years.

But the crushing defeat in the 2026 Assembly elections changed everything.

The party, which once won more than 200 seats, has now been reduced to 80 seats, after which internal discontent began to come to the fore.

Many MPs and MPs of the party rebelled and chose a new path, raising questions regarding factionalism and leadership within the Trinamool.

On the one hand, Mamata Banerjee and her supporters are calling these leaders “traitors” and on the other hand, the rebel leaders are raising questions about the direction and style of the party.

So is the existence of the Trinamool Congress really under threat? Or will Mamata Banerjee be able to unite the party again and give it new strength?

BBC correspondent Raghavendra Rao tried to find answers to all these questions related to the ongoing crisis in the Trinamool Congress.

Watch his special ground report.
