Mainz (dpa/lrs) – Extreme heat on Sunday required great efforts from firefighters and disaster management services in Mainz. According to the Mainz fire department, 45 missions need to be carried out in the city. According to information, this is more than three times more than on normal days.
About 100 fire brigade operations were registered on the territory of the control center. The volume of emergency calls has also increased significantly: from 7:00 to 19:00, 2,528 emergency calls were received, while in normal mode there were about 1,600.
There were also shortages in the medical sector. As indoor temperatures rose sharply in some Mainz clinics, firefighters helped with ventilators. An air-conditioned room was also prepared to relieve pressure on emergency departments, but it was ultimately not needed.
