Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Mount Anak Krakatau (MKK) in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung District, again showed increased volcanic activity. Within about an hour on Saturday (07/25/2026) afternoon, the Level III (Alert) volcano experienced two eruptions, with an ash column reaching a height of 457 meters above sea level.
According to the Mount Anak Krakatau observation post, the first eruption occurred at 16:52 WIB, followed by the second eruption at 18:00 WIB. The ash column rose approximately 300 meters above the summit, or 457 meters above sea level.
The head of the observation post on Mount Anak Krakatau, Andi Suwardi, said the ash column was gray to black in color and was dense and was moving northwest.
“The eruption occurred twice, namely at 16.52 WIB and 18.00 WIB. The height of the ash column was about 300 meters above the summit, or about 457 meters above sea level. The ash plume was gray to black in color with thick intensity directed towards the northwest,” Andi said on Sunday (July 26, 2026).
In addition to the visual eruption, the seismograph also recorded volcanic activity with a maximum amplitude of 43 millimeters and an eruption duration of about 1 minute 3 seconds.
Although the eruption has occurred again, Andi stressed that the activity of Mount Anak Krakatoa is still consistent with the nature of the eruption and the status of the mountain has not changed, namely Level III (Standby Mode).
He reminded the public, fishermen and tourists to continue to follow the recommendations of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG). All activities within a radius of 3 kilometers from the active crater were asked to cease to avoid potential danger.
“The status of Mount Anak Krakatoa remains at Level III or Alert. We urge the public, fishermen and tourists not to approach the mountain or carry out activities within a radius of 3 kilometers from the active crater for safety reasons,” he explained.
As of Sunday afternoon (July 26, 2026), activities at Mount Anak Krakatoa were still under intensive surveillance by the Mount Anak Krakatoa Observation Post in conjunction with PVMBG. There have been no reports of the eruption’s impact on residential areas around the Sunda Strait.
