Bob Odenkirk's action film "John Wick meets Fargo" is released in new theaters

Bob Odenkirk has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most unlikely action heroes. His foray into the genre began in 2021 with his highly acclaimed role as former government assassin turned suburban family man Hutch Mansell in Nobody, which was so successful that he reprized the role in 2025 in a sequel called Nobody 2. This year he further expanded his repertoire by starring in NormalR-rated action film written by John Wick created by Derek Kolstad and directed by Ben Wheatley. The bullet-riddled bonanza has earned widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers praising Odenkirk’s compelling lead performance as Ulysses, a small-town sheriff’s deputy who accidentally uncovers a massive criminal conspiracy – and it looks like he’s not ready to turn in his badge just yet, as the film has received a new release that’s sure to bring it back to screens.

“For Sheriff Ulysses, his temporary assignment to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal should have been a welcome respite from both his family woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery disrupts the quiet life of the town hall, a dirty secret is accidentally revealed and Ulysses learns that the town is not his namesake. Suddenly everyone is trying to shoot the sheriff, even his own deputies, and our disgruntled cop must rely on his affable nature and a few ragtag crooks if he wants to survive the night (and that’s all before the Yakuza show up).”

Normal It debuted to rave reviews after screening in Midnight Madness at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Small Town Shootout has a 77% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fargo, John WickAnd Hot fluff. Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights to distribute the action film in the United States and has scheduled its release in theaters on April 17, 2026. Strong Home Entertainment Sales Normal could improve a film’s chances of getting a sequel because it would prove that there is a dedicated, built-in audience hungry for more. Both Odenkirk and Wheatley have said that ideally they would like to turn it into a franchise, provided there is enough demand for it. Kolstad also said Deadline back in September, the team was in the process of looking for a sequel that could potentially bring Ulysses back into action, although the second film has yet to receive official studio approval.
