Gräfelfing (Bavaria) – They are among Germany’s biggest television legends and have been close friends for decades. On July 13, Günther Jauch celebrates his 70th birthday. It was an opportunity for Thomas Gottschalk (75) to congratulate his long-time friend exclusively at BILD with a very personal message.
Jauch and Gottschalk met at Bayerischer Rundfunk back in the 1980s. They later became the faces of German television, hosting numerous major shows and appearing on camera together on numerous occasions. From the legendary annual RTL reviews, various joint Saturday evening shows to the tribute show “Because They Don’t Know What’s Going On” as a trio with Barbara Schöneberger (52), Gottschalk and Jauch have been one of television’s most popular duos for decades. Two television legends, one friendship
While Gottschalk spent decades with “Wetten, dass..?” Yauch made television history with the series Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? crowd favorite. Despite their different careers, their paths continued to cross – and the colleagues became lifelong friends. These two have much more in common than just their television successes: Thomas Gottschalk and… Gunther Jauch spend time together regularly. Their wives Karina Gottschalk (68) and Thea Zieler (64) also get along well. These four often meet in private, away from cameras and television studios.

In honor of his milestone birthday, Thomas is now sending his friend a typically humorous and ironic message via BILD. Gottschalk-Style:
“Gunther! We swore to each other that we would say nothing more about each other until we were at each other’s open graves. But at 70 years old, saying nothing is harder for me than breaking this oath. Let it be this: you will still never catch up with me in age. I also know that Mick Jagger will always be several years older than me. And he has more wrinkles than both of us combined. It should stay that way! Happy 70, dear Gunther, your friend Thomas.”
