Thiruvananthapuram: The court granted bail to Thiruvananthapuram Corporation BJP councilor R. Sugathan. Magistrate Second Class Nedumangada 2 is released on bail. At the police station, Vatiyorkav was released on bail in two cases. Sugatan cannot be released from prison due to the presence of a mouth guard. Earlier, Sugathan Viyyur, who is in custody in the Kappa case, took oath in jail. Sugathan took the oath in prison after the court clarified that the duty of the court is to protect democracy. In a democracy, the mandate of the people must be respected.

In exceptional cases, the court may make an emergency decision. The order also stated that such an extraordinary decision respects the verdict of the people. This is the first time in the history of Kerala politics that a people’s representative is taking oath in jail. Sugathan, a councilor for Ward 20, is one of those whose oath was annulled by the High Court for illegally taking oaths in the name of multiple gods. Sugathan, who was deported on Kappa charges on June 9 last year, is currently lodged in Viyyur Central Prison.
