Ipswich Town continued preparations for a return to the Premier League by completing the £20 million acquisition of Khan striker Abdul Fatawa from Leicester City.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract to join Gary O’Neill’s side after scoring 16 goals in 100 games for Leicester since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.
Fatawu arrived at Portman Road with Ipswich ready to let striker Jayden Philogene leave, with the 24-year-old attracting interest from Europe.
He has a list of suitors believed to include Bologna, Roma and Benfica, and Ipswich would sanction a transfer if a suitable offer comes forward.
Fatawu became the Tractors’ fifth summer signing after striker Emerson joined from Toulouse earlier this month for a club-record fee of around £26 million.
Defender Cedric Kipre and striker Chuba Akpom have also signed permanently after successful loan spells last season, while goalkeeper Kane van Evelen arrives from Dutch club Volendam.
“The club’s ambitions are very exciting and I look forward to being part of realizing them as we prepare for the Premier League season,” Fatawu said.
“After talking to the coach I understand what is expected of him and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and getting started.
“I played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how loyal the fans are to the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”
Fatawu was part of the Foxes side that were relegated from the Championship last season, while Leicester are now preparing for their second season in the third tier of English football.
Last season, Tractor Drivers finished second in the Championship and will host Sunderland in their first top-flight match on August 22.
