A large field caught fire near Staven near Neubrandenburg on Sunday afternoon. Some residents had to leave their homes as a precaution.
A large field near Staven (Mecklenburg Lake District) was burning. Several fire crews numbering about 100 personnel were deployed to the area and were able to extinguish the fire in about two hours. Four firefighters were injured, two of them were taken to hospital. Two other fire department employees and two local residents were treated as outpatients.
The fire occurred during the harvest
According to operational management, the fire broke out around noon during harvesting in a winter barley field covering an area of 45 hectares. A local resident told NDR that it was a real firestorm that quickly spread to the village of Staven. The reason for this was probably the constantly changing winds.
Residents left their homes as a precaution.
Aerial photographs available to NDR show large grey-black clouds of smoke. The first houses in the village border directly on the burning field. Police and firefighters evacuated a total of 38 houses, containing about 50 residents. They were housed in the volunteer fire department building. The exact cause of the fire is not yet clear; The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of euros.
