The Ibrox midfielder earned plenty of praise for his performance against the United States as they thrashed the hosts 4-1 in the last 16.

He was also credited with turning the game around when he came on as a substitute as Belgium were losing 2-0 to Senegal before they scored twice in the last four minutes to force extra time, in which they won the tie.

And the respected French publication L’Equipe named the Rangers midfielder in their team as the discovery of the tournament.

They said: “Of the strong decisions Belgium coach Rudi Garcia has made since becoming Red Devils manager, the decision to introduce Nico Raskin in midfield is one of the smartest.”

“His World Cup is a reflection of his performances since his debut for the national team and demonstrates all his qualities in midfield.

“The 25-year-old midfielder has already made two assists, one against New Zealand and one against the USA.”

The squad also includes in-demand striker Yann Diomande, who is reportedly worth €100 million, as well as new Bayern striker Ismael Saibary.
