Wimbledon 2026: Venus Williams risks Wimbledon fine for repeating Serena's 'classless' act

The Williams sisters’ glorious return to Wimbledon isn’t going according to plan.

Just days after Serena was criticized for failing to fulfill her media responsibilities in what was called “classless,” Venus did the same.

The five-time Wimbledon singles champion was prepared to face questions about potentially playing in the women’s doubles with her sister.

But Venus rejected media requests for quotes following her first-round mixed doubles loss to Germany’s Kevin Kravitz.

And now she faces a fine from Wimbledon.

Players are expected to perform post-match media duties if a pre-match request is made by on-site reporters.

Stars could be fined up to $72,000 for violating the Media Opportunities section of the Grand Slam rulebook.

However, there are exceptional circumstances for missing a sanction, especially if they are “unable to attend for reasonable reasons (such as illness or injury).”

The club is aware of the snub and is awaiting a decision from the Grand Slam tournament supervisors.

The press was eager to ask Venus about pairing with Serena – both women are part of the sweepstakes, and fans are eagerly awaiting the famous sisters’ reunion.

Together they won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, including six at Wimbledon.

But there is a possibility that they won’t be able to play together due to the safety issues that come with having them on the court without tickets.
